When does one name get his or her name written into the Book of Life? We were having a bible study and two people said one name is written from birth.

I was wondering, while listening to "from close of probation to the new earth".... I accept that the sealed ones will go through the time of trouble, the last plagues, and the LORD will protect. I don't understand why the trauma and agony for the end time living ones, as the plagues after close of probation are meant to punish the disobedient lost ones? Do you understand why? Or, is it just because the LORD wills it so?
